Writers need different levels of support at different stages of their journey. Some need structured coaching to develop their skills, some need accountability to finish a draft, and others need in-depth editing to refine their manuscript. But too often, professional writing support is rigidly locked into separate services with strict pricing that doesn’t always reflect what a writer actually needs.
That’s why I, Noëlle Alexandria Clements, have designed a flexible, all-in-one approach that blends mentoring, writing support, book coaching, developmental editing, and independent publishing guidance. This way, writers get exactly the help they need without paying for what they don’t, while improving their own skills.
How It Works
Instead of charging by word count or breaking everything into separate fees, I offer scheduled blocks of time on a monthly basis for us to meet via Skype, Zoom, Messenger, or whatever else works for us both. These blocks can be used for anything from brainstorming and drafting to deep developmental edits, depending on what the writer needs each month. Rather than marking up a draft with notes, handing it to you, and telling you good luck, I will work with you in real time, chapter by chapter, paragraph by paragraph, sentence by sentence. Questions can be addressed and discussed on the spot.
Time isn’t strictly limited—if we’re in the middle of something and both have time to keep going beyond the end of a block, the we do, no additional fees. No nickel-and-diming. No stress. Just genuine support.
The Basics
• Blocks are booked monthly, with payment due at the start of each month.
• Writers can choose number and length of blocks, up to the maximum time I’ve got available.
• Each block can be used for any mix of coaching, writing instruction, editing, or support.
• Six-month agreements come with a 10% discount, but there are no strict contracts—life happens, and flexibility matters. I’m taking this on an honor system, that you aren’t asking for a six-month agreement with the intention of using my supports for three months, then bolting.
• Writers are expected to put in time outside of our sessions—progress won’t happen without it.
Pricing
Pricing is flexible, and these are just starting points. More blocks per week or fewer, more or fewer hours, whatever works for you, I can work with it. If we have a weekly schedule and there are five weeks, then that’s just a bonus block for you!
8 blocks per month (2 hours twice per week) → $750/month
Writers can shift focus as needed—some months might involve more coaching, others more editing. The structure is designed to meet you where you are.
What Can These Blocks Be Used For?
This is not a one-size-fits-all mentoring. Writers can use their blocks for any combination of:
📖 Book Coaching
• Developing ideas into a structured plan
• Accountability to keep writing
• Guidance on story structure, pacing, and themes
• Support from first draft to final revisions
📝 Writing Support
• Strengthening writing skills (style, voice, technique)
• Learning how to self-edit effectively
• Working through writer’s block
• Building confidence in writing
✍️ Developmental Editing & Revisions
• Big-picture feedback on plot, character, and pacing
• Deep revisions to strengthen storytelling
• Line editing to refine language
• Proofreading for grammar and mechanics
(Note: Grammar and mechanics can be tailored. For instance, typical genre fiction may have sentences ending with prepositions while literary fiction may avoid prepositions at the ends of sentences. How much attention is paid to who versus whom, whether that is “who” vs. “whom” with quotes, and so on, can vary depending on the needs of your finished work.)
📚 Independent Publishing & Layout Support
• Formatting for print or eBooks
• Guidance on self-publishing and industry expectations
• Reviewing final drafts before submission
(Note: While I have training in marketing and publishing, I am not currently offering marketing plan support due to ongoing industry shifts, and I can’t, in any good conscience, provide support or guidance on something I’m not sure about myself right now. In fact, I am currently working with a coach of my own about these shifts.)
📌 Short-Term & Special Projects
• Assistance with creative writing class assignments
• Manuscript critiques
• Learning specific writing techniques or research skills
One thing I will never do: write someone’s work for them. Learning is the goal, not shortcuts. If you want something prewritten that you can slap your name on, there’s ChatGPT for that. But please, don’t do that. Environmental and scraping concerns aside, let’s not further decimate the creative arts.
Who I am
I’ve spent years writing, editing, and studying publishing. not just as a passion, but as a lifelong commitment to honing my craft and understanding the industry. I’ve had the privilege of immersing myself in writing, refining my skills, and tracking industry trends for a couple decades.
Academically, I have the credits for degrees in English literature and art, both earned with a 4.0 GPA. I’m a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. I’ll officially graduate once I complete my current degree in music, for which I also have a 4.0 GPA. (My instrument, for those wondering, is voice—I’m an operatic soprano who can comfortably hit a G6.) If a subject could enhance my writing and I have the means to study it, then I will. Both music and art have proven invaluable for my This Thing of Ours series, and my commitment to authenticity doesn’t stop there. Right now, I’m learning to figure skate for a pair of for-fun novelettes, and I finally pursued the pilot’s license I’d always wanted to ensure the aviation scenes I write for my This Thing of Ours series are as accurate as possible.
I was a writer long before I decided to study English lit, but no writer should ever believe they’ve learned everything there is to know. The best writers evolve, adapt, and push themselves to improve, and I strive to do the same while passing along the knowledge I’ve gained over the years.
Why I’m Doing This
I know how hard it is to find affordable, high-quality support with someone willing to work with you as finances and life shift. If I could, I’d offer my support and mentoring for free—but I also have bills to pay. Realistically speaking, the last person to ever get paid is the writer. The running joke that the best way to make money in the book industry is to do anything other than writing books isn’t very funny. But at the same time, I have bills, and if I have to take on another job, that means less time helping writers. This model lets me keep my focus on helping authors while ensuring my time is sustainable.
What I Specialize In
My focus is early to mid-20th-century fiction—a niche that isn’t highly commercial but is often written out of love and passion. I have specialized knowledge in:
✦ Period aviation, especially WASP and WWII-era aviation (I am a licensed pilot)
✦ Social structures & laws of the early/mid-20th century
✦ Dance, music, and art of the time
✦ How people survived during hardships during the Great Depression and during WWII (for both Europe and North America)
✦ Criminal enterprises, especially in the northeastern United States
I don’t claim expertise in Asia’s history and cultures, but can provide insight into the Western world’s fascination with Egyptian culture and similar topics.
What I Will & Won’t Work On
✅ Aside from typical fluffy stories, I WILL work with:
• Explicit content (violence, gore, adult themes)
• Sexual assault in stories that either further the plot or be part of an erotica-focused work
• Dark, disturbing, graphic themes? I’m comfortable with them.
(I have my own dead-dove folder that will never see the light of day.)
• All age-appropriate and consenting relationships are respected, whether queer, polyamorous, or otherwise
• Period-depiction of bigotry, mental health, and class structures that differ, sometimes drastically, from now, and I consider myself to specialize in finding the line between period-accurate representation and going too far. This can be an extremely fine line.
🚫 I will NOT work with:
• Graphic depictions of child abuse unless there is an important narrative reason for it.
• Anything that glorifies bigotry, hate, or predatory behavior.
• Stories that I don’t feel some degree of passion for—if my heart isn’t in it, it wouldn’t be fair to you.
Who This Is For
This isn’t for everyone. If you’re looking for someone to just tell you your writing is great with no real feedback, then I’m not the person for you. But if you want honestly, yet supportive, feedback, genuine, tailored support, someone invested in your story, and a writing partner who cares about your progress, then I could be a perfect fit.
If this sounds like the kind of support you’re looking for, reach out. I want to work with writers who are excited about their stories, who are willing to put in the work, and who want to grow in this craft. There’s no strict contract, no long-term obligation, just a commitment to your writing.
If you’re ready to take the next step in your writing journey, let’s see how we can work together.
